A car drove over an embankment into the Columbia River on Friday morning just after 2 a.m.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and Portland Fire and Rescue have been searching the water and riverbank off the 500 block of North Bridgeton Road.

 One person was pulled out of the water early in the investigation, and a second was recovered from the scene at about 6:45 a.m. The second man was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a local hosptial.

Police and rescuers are still trying to unravel exactly what happened.
