PGE crews are working to restore power to nine blocks in downtown Portland.  An explosion and fire in an electrical vault caused the outage.  What caused the explosion is under investigation. There's no estimate for when the power will be restored.

Power is out to City Hall, the Portland Building, and the Multnomah County Courthouse.

The City of Portland released the following information:
Due to a power outage, City Hall and the Portland Building will be closed tomorrow, Monday, Dec. 9, until 12:00 p.m. (noon).  Employees of these buildings should not report to work until power is restored.

Portland’s downtown core is experiencing a power outage that affects City Hall and the Portland Building along with several other building in the surrounding area.  Portland General Electric is working to restore power.  At this time it is not anticipated that power will be restored to City Hall and the Portland Building until at least mid-day Monday.

Community members conducting business and city employees working in these building should check the City’s main webpage,, or call the City/County Information and Referral number, 503-823-4000, for updates before coming to the buildings or reporting to work.  City employees are expected to report to work at noon, unless indicated otherwise on the City’s webpage or the 503-823-4000.

Multnomah Co. Circuit Court:
The Multnomah County Courthouse, the downtown courthouse at 1021 SW Fourth Avenue, will be without electrical power on December 9, 2013. All trials, hearings and other proceedings scheduled to begin in the Multnomah Courthouse on December 9 are canceled and will be rescheduled by the court.  The courthouse will reopen for business on December 10, 2013. Continuing trials should contact the office of the Presiding Judge to determine if there is an alternate location for those proceedings on Monday. 

Jurors summoned to the downtown courthouse to report for jury service on December 9 need to report for service on. Tuesday morning December 10, 2013 All court proceedings set in the Justice Center, in the Juvenile Justice Complex and in the East County Courthouse will proceed as scheduled on Monday, December 9.  Only the downtown courthouse on Fourth Avenue in Portland is affected by the emergency cancellation of court hearings and proceedings. (Effective tomorrow - Mon Dec 9th)

The MAX Yellow and Green line trains are experiencing delays, because they must stop at all intersections between Jefferson and Burnside, because the traffic signals are out. For traffic, those intersections are 4-way stops.
