The pilot of a small plane was able to walk away from a crash in a field near the North Plains gliderport on Sunday.
53-year-old John Kimmel was flying his 1991 RV-3M amature built single engine plane. He took off from the gliderport, but the engine began losing power. He tried to return to the runway, but crashed in a nearby field.
The wheels buckled under the plane, but it remained upright.
Kimmel was not hurt.
The FAA is investigating.
