(San Antonio, TX)  --  The San Antonio Spurs are hiring the first woman assistant in NBA history.  The team is adding retiring WNBA star Becky Hammon to Gregg Popovich's coaching staff.  Hammon, who is currently in her 16th season, announced on July 23rd that she would retire at the end of the 2014 campaign. 

She is a six-time WNBA All-Star and has spent the last eight seasons with the San Antonio Stars.  Hammon was named to the WNBA Top 15 Players of All-Time roster in 2011.  She ranks seventh in WNBA history in points, fourth in assists and sixth in games.  She joins a Spurs team that is coming off its fifth NBA title.
