For this year's installment of Global Citizen Festival, which will take place on December 2, 2018, the folks behind the highly-anticipated affair are taking festivities to Johannesburg, South Africa to celebrate music and the lasting legacy of Nelson Mandela.
Among the acts that will perform at the annual show include Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Pharrell Williams, Eddie Vedder and more. Deemed "Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100," the event will take place at FNB Stadium over the course of three days before the fifth anniversary of the passing of the human rights activist on December 5, 2013. Among the other acts set for the line-up include Cassper Nyovest, D'banj, Femi Kuti, Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage, Usher, and Wizkid.
On the hosting front, Naomi Campbell, Sir Bob Geldof, Gayle King, Tyler Perry and Forest Whitaker will handle the flow of events. Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey will deliver the keynote address for the event, which will serve as the culmination of Mandela 100 in conjunction with the House of Mandela.
Mandela 100 has some big goals ahead, particularly raising $1 billion for initiatives working on ending hunger, increasing accessibility to good nutrition for adolescent girls, reducing HIV/AIDS transmission rates, advocating for quality education, providing funding for women's health and ensuring access to clean water and safe sanitation on a worldwide scale.
