1,018 TSA employees have tested positive for the novel coronavirus; six of which have died.
The majority of those who have contracted the virus are security officers, who have continued to screen passengers at airports throughout the pandemic.
According to the president of the union that represents the officers, Hydrick Thomas, the figure is a reflection of the agency’s ongoing struggle to properly protect its employees.
“Right now they’re bringing people back to work and the social distance is not in total effect,” he said. “Employees are still complaining there’s too many of them in one area.”
