Janice Combs has vehemently denied the stories about how she raised her son Sean "Diddy" Combs and other shocking allegations made in Netflix's Sean Combs: The Reckoning.
According to a statement she made to Deadline on Saturday, December 6, Combs said the "lies" told in the documentary were "intentionally done to mislead viewers and further harm our reputation.”
“In the documentary, I am portrayed as an abusive parent,” she explained. “This is untrue. As I have stated previously, I was a single mother, raising my son, I held three and even four jobs in an attempt to provide a comfortable upbringing and quality education for my child. I raised Sean with love and hard work, not abuse.”
The docuseries, executive produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson," featured Bad Boy Entertainment co-founder Kirk Burrowes, who talks about growing up with Diddy in Mount Vernon, N.Y. Burrowes claimed his mother used to throw wild parties at their home and invited people who consumed alcohol and used drugs around her son. He also claimed young Combs got plenty of whoopings, but his mom said their relationship wasn't abusive.
In addition, Combs also denied an incident that Burrowes described while talking about the aftermath of the deadly incident that happened at the celebrity basketball game at City College in 1991. Burrowes claimed that Combs berated his mom and slapped her in the face after she confronted him about what happened at the event.
“The allegations stated by Mr. Kirk Burrows that my son slapped me while we were conversing after the tragic City College events on December 28, 1991, are inaccurate and patently false,” she said. “That was a very sad day for all of us.”
Sean Combs: The Reckoning has caused plenty of chaos across social media timelines everywhere since it dropped on December 2. The imprisoned artist's legal team slammed the series as a "shameful hit piece" and has issued a cease and desist to Netflix. They claim the streaming service used "stolen footage" and paid people to appear in the documentary. A rep for Netflix denied the allegations and maintained that all the footage was obtained legally
