A sprinkler system helped slow a kitchen fire in a 14th floor apartment in Portland on Saturday afternoon.
A street fair near the building at 2nd and East Burnside made it difficult for firefighters to access the building.
Residents were evacuating. When firefighters reached the apartment, the sprinkler system kept the fire from spreading.
It was caused by items on the stove catching fire when the stove was accidentally turned on.
The resident was treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene.
