The student at Portland's Benson High School who was hospitalized in critical condition following a hazardous materials incident is expected to survive.

Portland Police say the 15-year-old boy didn't drink the chemicals but mixed them and then inhaled the gases.

The chemicals are available over the counter, and the student brought them from home. They have not released what chemicals were used.

No one else in the building was hospitalized from the school. Two people later went to a hospital for evaluation.

The investigation into the motive for the incident is ongoing.
