Rare Super Mario Bros. video game from 1985 sells for record amount!

The thought of buying a game and never playing it may seem crazy, but for one person, that decision ended up making them a grip of money!

A rare Super Mario Bros game was recently sold for a record amount at an auction. The owner of the game, whose identity was not released, received $660,000 after the game sat in a drawer untouched for over 30 years.

Dallas-based Heritage Auctions recently held a Comics & Comic Art Auction that saw a number of rare pieces sold off. However, it was a Super Mario Bros. - Wata 9.6 A+ Sealed [Hangtab, 1 Code, Mid-Production], NES Nintendo 1985 USA that was the most sought after.

The original owner was given the game as a Christmas gift in 1986, remaining in a drawer untouched for 35 years.

“It stayed in the bottom of my office desk this whole time since the day I bought it. I never thought anything about it,” said the seller who now holds the auction record for highest price paid for a video game.

The previous record was a copy of Super Mario Bros that sold for $114,000 in July 2020!
