Juveniles Arrested After School Break-in

On Friday, July 20, 2018, at 3:26 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a burglary at the temporary Grant High School site, located at 3905 Southeast 91st Avenue.

When officers arrived at the high school, they contacted contract security personnel who informed officers they had responded to the location after an alarm was activated. Officers learned the security personnel had heard multiple people's voices in the school as they investigated the cause of the alarm activation. Upon hearing the voices, the security personnel waited for police to arrive.

Responding officers positioned themselves around the building. A police canine team responded to assist with the burglary investigation. As officers searched the temporary Grant High School site, three suspects ran from the building and were taken into custody by officers positioned outside.

As officers continued the burglary investigation, they located a backpack believed to belong to the suspects. Inside the backpack officers located a loaded firearm. Upon further inspection, officers learned the firearm had previously been reported as a stolen gun. Officers also located vandalism, including a broken window and paint that had been applied to the walls, lockers, and floors of the school.

The suspects were lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home on charges of Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Theft by Receiving in the First Degree, and Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public. The suspects' identities will not be provided by the Police Bureau, in accordance with Oregon State law.
