Stranger Danger in Beaverton

The Beaverton Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Office are warning the community about two incidents of strange men trying to lure kids into their vehicles in the same area this month.

On September 5th, Washington County Sheriff’s office say a middle school student reported a man driving a white van pulled up next to her and asked if she needed a ride to school near SW Butner Rd and SW Spring Lane. The student told the man “no” and continued to walk to school. The student reported seeing the vehicle several more times as she walked to school. The student later reported the incident to her parents who then called the Washington County Sheriff’s office.

Then on September 14th,  Beaverton Police Department says a middle school student reported a man driving a red Ford pickup, yelled at her in an attempt to have her get into his vehicle on Cedar Hills Blvd and SW Park Way. That student also reacted appropriately and found a trusted adult. The student reported the incident to her parents and the school who then reported to the Beaverton Police Department. A search of the area by officers didn’t locate the vehicle.

Officer Jeremy Shaw, Public Information Officer with the Beaverton Police Department, says their advice for students is to always walk with friends and to walk on streets that they're familiar with. With winter approaching and as it gets dark out, Shaw says to walk on roads that are well lit.

Beaverton Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Office do not have any identified suspects at this time. Officers will conduct enhanced patrols in the area. Your asked to report any suspicious vehicles in the area to Washington County Dispatch at 503-629-0111.
