The Phoenix Suns (5-1) withstood a furious fourth quarter charge to defeat the Portland Trail Blazers (2-5) 103-97 Saturday night at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Trail Blazers used a 17-4 run in the second to take a 47-43 halftime lead. Both teams struggled on offense in the first two quarters shooting below 30%.
Phoenix took control of the game by dominating the third quarter. They outscored Portland 44-18 in the period on 60% shooting including 9-of-18 from three-point range. The Suns were +24 from beyond-the-arc and had 16 assists on 17 made field goals.
Portland trailed by 26 at 93-67 with 9:51 to play and that's when things got crazy. A Dalano Banton three-pointer finished off a 30-6 run cutting the suns lead to just two-points at 99-97 with 1:04 to play.
Portland had a chance to take the lead with 28.1 seconds to play but Banton's three-pointer rattled out. The Suns added four free throws to seal the victory.
