Claires Recalling More Makeup Sets Over Asbestos

A few months ago, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration came out with a warning about makeup from Claire’s, the retailer that sells accessories, jewelry and makeup for girls and tweens. They tested products sold there and after some tested positive for asbestos, the FDA issued astatementand advised tossing the affected products.

But now there’s another issue with asbestos in some makeup sold at Claire’s. TheFDA has announcedthat Claire’s has voluntarily recalled one of its makeup kits -the JoJo Siwa Makeup Set - after it tested positive for asbestos, which is highly toxic and certain types of it can lead toserious health problems, including several types of cancer. The FDA announcement also warns to not use the Beauty Plus Global Contour Effects Palette 2, which was recently recalled because of asbestos as well.

A Claire’s spokesperson says the retailer “stands behind the safety of this product and all other Claire’s cosmetic items as such small trace amounts are considered acceptable under European and Canadian safety regulations.” And they’ll offer a full refund to anyone who bought the kit.
